Hello, I am glad that you found me.
I have counseled adolescents and adults for over three decades.
I love my work.
I am a Vermont State Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), consultant, workshop presenter, clinical supervisor, university instructor and non-denominational ordained minister.
I am currently only working with adults and my primary interest is couples work. I’ve studied with Esther Perel and Terrence Real (US: Getting Past You and Me to Build a More Loving Relationship) and I specialize in working with couples who need help with intimacy, trust, sex and communication.
I balance my private practice with teaching, supervising and presenting workshops on a variety of topics.
My training in Person Centered, CBT, Relational Life and Family Systems Theory informs my work. Together we will decide what will work best for you.
As your counselor, I will:
- stay curious and interested in your work
- give you my undivided attention
- accept you without judgment
- communicate understanding
- witness your feelings
- challenge your stressful beliefs, and
- believe in your ability to think and act in new ways.
I look forward to working with you in the future. Until then, I wish you and yours all the best.
– Barbara
Here’s what clients are saying about their work with Barbara:
April 7, 2024
Barbara’s approach is wonderful; she allows the conversation to reveal motivations behind behavior or actions while providing possible context or information for the motivation. She poses questions in the form of statements, which leads to more revelation – I’m put in the position of having to think about my situation from a grounded perspective, as opposed to simply being overwhelmed with emotion or confusion. And she’s an ideal conversationalist, which makes me comfortable enough to receive observations. –DS

Couples Counseling!
SUCH A GREAT THERAPIST!
“Barbara has been working with my son, as well as my wife and I regarding some issues my son has been having. She has been such an amazing resource for us, and she is helping us all to work on issues, to let our defenses down, and to gain insight. She is compassionate and caring, but she is also willing to give someone a “kick in the pants” when needed. She meets you where you are at, provides a practical path forward, and is there to guide you through the scary steps of growth and change.” — P.H.
EXCELLENT THERAPIST
“Barbara has helped me with many things — parenting, marriage, recovery from trauma, anxiety and more. She offers workable solutions, makes me laugh, and helps put things in perspective. I highly recommend her as a therapist.” — M.C.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
“We’ve been hunting for a couples therapist in VT for years without success in finding the right fit. Our search is over. Barbara makes us each feel heard, asks questions to help us explore ourselves individually as well as our relationship in a meaningful way, and is REAL. She does not put on airs and tells it like it is and that is a breath of fresh air. We are so glad we finally found her!!” — K.A.
Comfort, Compassion!
Barbara creates an incredibly welcome space. Her kind, calm demeanor really helps me feel safe. She really has helped me through so much. I’ve seen her on and off for about 5 years and I feel like I’ve conquered so much. She’s extremely real and honest but also funny and very warm. — ML
Barbara is great!
When I go into see Barbara it is like I’m sitting down with an old friend. It is obvious she really cares and wants to help. Barbara tells it how it is and is not afraid to be tough when positive and impactful work needs to get done. I would recommend her to anyone. — LW
Simply, Barbara is the best!
I feel I can speak about anything with Barbara: money, sex, politics, religion, relationships (be they family, friends, spouse, child, coworkers), aging, transitions. It is endlessly helpful to know any topic I raise will be received, heard and thoughtfully considered. I leave our sessions with concrete ideas for moving forward, thoughts to share with others, and a quiet reminder that, amidst the turmoil, life can be well lived. — A.S
